Fastlege-Ordningen*
[*Your fastlege – is the designated doctor you select from a local pool of physicians within the national health plan]

In Norway we have a General Practitioner’s Scheme or Fastlege scheme. The Fastlege is a general practice doctor under an agreement with the municipality to participate in the Regular General Practitioner Scheme. Everyone have a right to be assigned a permanent, named, primary-care-physician, or GP, under this plan.

The Fastlege is required to be available for his patients and must prioritize these ahead of individuals not on his list. You may sign up for the fastlege of your own choice, provided the one you choose accept new patients and is a participant in the General Practitioner’s Scheme. Your may choose a fastlege from outside your hometown municipality.

Participation in the scheme is voluntary, and you are free to find a doctor outside the Fastlege plan, although that will require you to pay a higher patient’s payment premium. If you are the custodian of a child under the age of 16, you will need to choose fastlege for your child as well.

You have a right to keep the same fastlege while staying in a nursing home.

The Lyngdal Public Health Clinic, or helsestasjon, is located on the 3rd floor* of Rådhuset (Town Hall).

Our nearest hospital is Flekkefjord Sykehus located 30 kilometers, or less than 20 miles, west of Lyngdal. Flekkefjord Sykehus is a division of the Sørlandet Sykehus HF group.

Asylum seekers and refugees living or staying temporarily in the municipality are entitled to such necessary health services as is offered any other person staying in the municipality. Municipal health services shall see to that asylum seekers and refugees receive necessary assistance for physical and mental health needs.
